I started using skin cleansers since I was a teenager when the first signs of acne appeared. At that time I did not have a care routine, but only a few cleaning products that I used with dubious regularity at first, which changed as the effects began to make their presence felt.
I remember that the first cleanser was a sulfur face soap for acne, and then I used other types of products: tonic lotion, cleansing gel / foam, stain gel and pimples.
Everything was pretty chaotic until the 11th grade I understood the most important things in skin care: products suitable for the type of skin and specific problems, the use of a complete range of products containing cleansing, toning and moisturizing products and most importantly, their regular use.
In vain do you have the best and best products in the world if you do not use them constantly. Did you know that it takes a minimum of 40 days (ie the cell recovery interval) to see the results of a product? I recommend you read the article "15 things you didn't know about your body”.
I didn't get rid of acne very easily because I had to experience everything on my own without anyone telling me exactly how to proceed. That is why I am writing this article to inform other people what a proper skin care routine should look like, regardless of the products you choose to use.
You have to keep in mind that the skin should be constantly cleansed and hydrated (morning and evening), but not irritated. I met people who had skin problems and cleansed it with gel 3 or 4 times a day, which can make the situation worse.
The skin care routine should contain the following steps:
1. Cleaning: which may mean using a make-up remover (if you are wearing make-up) and then a cleansing gel / foam (to remove make-up remover and the last particles of dust or make-up).
2. Toning: use a tonic lotion (preferably without alcohol) that has several roles depending on the needs of each person: light hydration, gets rid of the feeling of "skin holding" caused by water, removes the last traces of makeup, etc. I invite (and insist) you to read This article to have a different perspective on tonic lotions.
3. Hydration: Hydration of the skin is very important because it represents the external help that we offer to our body. Except for people who have specific problems visible in the epidermis and who need special extra care, any person will at some point encounter the degenerative process, ie aging of the skin. Food, ultraviolet rays, smoking, alcohol or sleep deprivation are just some of the elements that influence the aging and degradation of the skin, the genetic factor being the most important. It is alsoit is very important to use a cream with sun protection factor every time you expose yourself to the sun's rays, regardless of the season or the weather outside.
Also in the hydration chapter you have to keep in mind that The skin around the eyes needs special care since it is much thinner and there are no sebaceous glands in that area. And When choosing the moisturizing product or products, you must take into account your skin type and local problems. Mixed skin, for example, is very pretentious because it has excess sebum in the T-zone, but also dry skin around the nose or mouth. Remember that acne and oily skin are actually a sign of deep dehydration.. So, my advice is to choose your moisturizers according to your skin type, your specific needs, but also be careful about the ingredients that can cause you discomfort.
There are also some rules of personal hygiene that we must keep in mind:
1. The towel in front and the pillow on which you sleep they should only be yours and you should change them quite often (very often in the case of acne people who want to heal);
2. Do not borrow cosmetics or face products that have come into direct contact with other people: balms or lipsticks, crème in jars, dermatographs or mascara, etc.
3. Do not put dirty hands on your faceIn fact, it is not recommended to touch your face except with clean hands.
4. If you wear a hat (that it is only winter) and comes in contact with the forehead, it is recommended to wash it as often as possible.
5. If you apply foundation with your fingers, apply first in clean and acne-free areas and then in problem areas, and then wash your hands immediately.
6. If you put on makeup, Don't forget to clean your makeup tools regularly, especially those intended for the face, and those for creamy products after each use.
Next time I will tell you what my evening and morning skin care routine is and what products I currently use. Would you be interested to know this information?

From my point of view, the toner should NOT have alcohol present in it, not in the first positions. If it is fixed at the bottom of the list, it would be OK, because it is probably solvent for one of the extracts used in toner (for example propolis is not soluble in water or oil, only in alcohol, so the inclusion of propolis extract as a percentage of 1% (propolis tincture in fact) would mean that we have, from this 1%, 50% alcohol (for example), ie 0.5% from the final composition, which would not be problematic. If the toner is "for oily skin" and contains alcohol on the first positions, then ... it is definitely quite high and irritates the skin (astringent lotions do that).
Otherwise, you are very right. We must treat our skin gently, as if it were sensitive, without filling it with irritants. After all, it is a HEALTH problem, it being the largest organ of our body 😉
Finally, someone who explains to me the presence of alcohol in certain products, I thought that I don't drive him crazy there and that he must have a role. Thanks for the explanations, I hope the girls read your comment carefully 😀
Dear Ioana, I'm glad I was able to help you!
It is also important to differentiate between good and bad alcohols. Alcohols such as glycerol, propylene glycol, cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, benehyl alcohol and the list goes on are good alcohols. The first 2 are moisturizers, the others are fatty alcohols (at most they can increase the softening level of a cream). Alcohols such as alcohol, denatured alcohol, those are the problematic ones. Personally, I try to avoid "bad" alcohols as much as I can, but I make exceptions where I know for sure that I have less than 1% in the list of ingredients (for example I bought an ingredient, keratin, which is a mixture of other ingredients among which and acohool.I take care to put that ingredient in a very small percentage if it is intended for a leave-in product).
If you have any questions about the type of alcohol, check it in Paula Begoun's ingredient dictionary, it is well documented in this chapter. Mainly alcohols have the ending (name) in -OL. (ethanOL, GlyerOL, GlycOL etc.), so you know what you are looking for 🙂
Extremely useful your comment… I knew about the positioning of the ingredient in the list - the more it is at the end the less it is in quantity but unfortunately this information is not known by many people - as for the "good and bad" alcohols this is another problem that girls don't know and are always wrong…
I think that if Ioana wants you can help her write an article about the type of alcohol and about which it is solvent and for what substance… I think it would be extremely interesting and especially useful
I do not use tonic lotion at all !! when I was in high school I used to buy all kinds of lotions and I didn't understand why my skin was dry, but a lady told me that I don't have to use tonic lotion if I usually have dry skin; I haven't used it before and it works very well;)) therefore I never use tonic lotion again :))))))))) I hope it makes sense what I said… this box where I write the message is so miiiiccaaaa! !! :))))))
A very good article !! Congratulations!!
I think that this face mask can help us from time to time 🙂
I read your article with great interest and I find it very good. I can't wait to post about the morning and evening care ritual. I find basic information for any woman who cares about her image.
I would like to read a post in which you present your skin care routine, with the products you use.
Interesting and useful!
An extremely interesting and useful article for all of us. Thank you Iolana for all your advice.
Very good article, I read it with great interest! Indeed, there are many things to consider, there are also certain elements that vary from one person to another, and it is important for each of us to take proper care, it is necessary to have the correct information first, in order to obtain, in time, results as desired!
It is very difficult to find the archive, I have to click every month if I want to find something. is not a search on the site?
very useful
Very interesting article as well as Ms. Simona's comment.
Olla Ioana, nice tips… I need advice. My face sweats a lot, I have combination skin and due to sweating my makeup can't resist… Please Help !!!
I really liked the article and I can't wait to see your routine with products!
yes, correct skin care is very important, in time you learn what you like and what not!
Good advice, I can't wait to see your routine. Over time, I have tried products for the face and I can say that, in terms of tonic lotion, I am super happy with the Sebium H2O micellar lotion from Bioderma, together with the foaming cleansing gel, from the same range.
Hi Ioana. I would like to know if the use of products by the same company is very important?
Yes and no. For example for hair I would militate for, but for girls you have to be more selective 🙂
During the summer, due to the heat and dust, I always have problems with my oily skin and due to the excess of sebum, pimples and blackheads appeared. After several products, without results I went to the doctor for a good treatment.
The doctor gave me for my oily skin products based on pure 100% tea tree oil from Thursday Plantation.
He gave me the following… a natural foam to wash without, then to apply the tonic lotion with tea tree and witch hazel. After it cleaned my skin very well, I applied Natural Moisturizing Face Cream with tea tree, rosehip oil and vitamin E also from this company.
The differences are visible, the excess sebum is under control now, my skin is cleaner and no pimples or blackheads have appeared. For me, oily skin works perfectly, I recommend them.
